Supporting Independence for Seniors

At Mercy Appeal Foundation, we design and deliver community-based programs that empower older adults to live independently with dignity. Through accessible services and local partnerships, we ensure seniors have the support they need to remain in their own homes and communities.

At Mercy Appeal Foundation, we believe that a thriving community starts with looking after one another. Our Community Services programs are built to support the most vulnerable among us — our seniors, our struggling families, and those who simply need a helping hand to stay independent and connected.

Our work in Canada is deeply rooted in compassion and faith. Every week, our dedicated volunteers show up — at community halls, at people’s doorsteps, and on the phone — to ensure that no one in our community feels invisible or forgotten. We run programs that address loneliness, mobility, digital exclusion, and food insecurity, because we understand that true community care means meeting people where they are. Whether it is organizing a warm weekly gathering for seniors, delivering halal food boxes to low-income families, or helping an elderly resident navigate a video call with their grandchildren — every act of service is an act of worship.

The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others.

OUR COMMUNITY WORK

Building Social Connections

We organize social gatherings, community events, and volunteer-led initiatives to reduce isolation and keep seniors engaged and connected.

Social Connection Program

We organize warm and welcoming weekly meetups where seniors can enjoy tea, friendly conversations, and engaging games in a relaxed social setting, helping them avoid loneliness and feel a true sense of belonging. Our compassionate volunteers also provide regular phone call check-ins, offering companionship, reassurance, and a caring voice. In addition, we arrange enjoyable group outings to parks, places of worship, and shopping centers, giving older adults opportunities to stay active, connected, and involved in their community. What you do:

Senior Social & Digital Support Program

Our program is designed to keep seniors socially connected and digitally empowered. We host friendly weekly social meetups that encourage conversation, companionship, and community bonding. To help older adults confidently navigate today’s technology, we offer monthly digital training sessions tailored to their needs, covering practical skills such as using WhatsApp, Zoom, Skype, or Teams for video calls, connecting to Wi-Fi, searching for information online, navigating with Google Maps, and sending or receiving phone calls and text messages. In addition, our regular phone check-ins provide ongoing support, ensuring seniors feel cared for, connected, and never alone.

Accessible Transportation & Mobility Support

Accessible transportation is essential in helping seniors and individuals with disabilities travel safely and comfortably to their medical appointments and essential destinations. Our services ensure ease, dignity, and peace of mind by offering wheelchair-accessible vehicles and dependable door-to-door assistance. With a strong focus on comfort, safety, and reliability, we strive to make every journey smooth and stress-free. Through collaboration with our trusted local partners, we are able to extend this support and ensure our community members receive the care and accessibility they deserve
